About the Role
Machine Learning Researchers will conduct research on generative AI models that improve autonomy, reduce user workload, and enhance decision-making. Research areas include workflow optimization, situational awareness, human-AI interaction, and AI assurance, emphasizing model transparency, rapid iteration, and reliability in high-stakes environments such as defense.
What You'll Do
- Conduct research on machine learning approaches for constrained or isolated environments, including methods for monitoring system behavior and improving robustness.
- Prototype AI systems to investigate emerging ideas such as traceable outputs and adaptive behavior without full retraining.
- Develop research benchmarks tied to operational scenarios, focusing on efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Identify new research opportunities, including secure integration with external tools, data sources, and protected environments.
- Produce publishable research in artificial intelligence and evaluate prototypes through simulation and user feedback to assess reliability and performance.
Required Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a Master's or PhD program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and evaluating ML models through coursework, projects, or internships.
- U.S. citizenship or eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with applied or experimental research in machine learning or artificial intelligence.
- Awareness of practical constraints that affect AI systems in real-world or secure settings.
- Interest in mission-driven technology, such as defense or other high-stakes application areas.
- Desire to produce publishable research while working on practical, high-impact AI applications, including topics related to reliability or governance.
Compensation
Compensation will be influenced by factors such as relevant skills, experience and academic level. Stipends or research grants may be included for qualifying student candidates. Flexible scheduling can be offered to accommodate academic commitments.
